We Are They is a high school band in the area which is somewhat of a legacy from my own band in high school continued on by one of the teachers. I recorded this demo for them which got them into the annual Mesa Battle of the Bands where they took home 3rd place. This is by far their best tune: There Beside You
UPDATE!!!!!!! We Are They is making an album with yours truly! Right now we've got most of the basic tracks. Everything is sounding WAY better than it did last year thanks to better gear and a lot more experience and know-how on my part, not to mention the band has had another year to tighten up their sound. Everything is still in the works, so I've only got a couple of rough mixes at this point, but take a listen and compare to the version above. I think it's gonna sound a TON hotter.
Paradigm Shift Productions asked me if I could record a sound-alike of the Budweiser 'Real Men of Genius' music. The piano is perhaps the cheesiest thing since the last pickup line I used, and therefore this song makes me Not Quite a Real Man of Genius
I met Court, the guitarist for 4 Strikes at a Steve Vai concert and could tell he was a great musician so I knew I had to record him. He's in quite a few bands and this one was in need of a demo so I tracked them at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences as one of my projects.
It's Time
Light The Flame
Who's Side Are You On?
But Court himself was in need of a demo to submit to Berklee for his scholarship audition. So seeing as how he's a friend, I didn't want him to have a really junky sounding demo to send off. So I fired up the 'ole Pro Tools rig, whipped out some new mics, and viola!
Beyond Reason: A Court Stumpf original.
A pal of mine form the Conservatory asked me if I'd record him and his friends in a little rap outfit called WRAP Addix. From Nebraska, these guys were really nice and we had a good time with it. The backing tracks were pre-canned by the artists, all MIDI-based. I'd still like to do a full on acoustic hip-hop session. Oh well, enjoy.
This Ain't That Shit (That You're Used To): recorded LATE on a friday night through an SSL channel strip into a Digi002. Throwing together a rough mix at 2AM in 10 minutes?... Not ready for radio. hahaha
Gotta Keep It Crackin': done in a much more modest environment and sans SSL I/O and iso booth to make it clean.
Runnin': just a little something the guys decided to freestyle since Jason had to leave the next morning.
Amanda Stroud wrote a song for her graduating class from my high school, so I recorded the backing tracks for her to sing to. It was a morning project with bag boy and this was less than 4 hours from setup to teardown. I think it came out very clean.Don't know the name of this song
Alien Karma: Joe Satriani tribute tune. Mark's bass solo = weak ass. Original Tarktones tune.
Coffee Talk: originally an instrumental of mine, cannibalized for the Tarktones, it's about pipe dreams.
Machine Gun: original Tarktones hit! Cheesy 80's style from my livingroom.
Machine Gun V2.0: recorded as a mix project in the DAW room at MCC with better microphones and drums sequenced by moi.
Rockout Express; Next Stop? YOU!: this song has the WORST Yngwie rip-off ever. If you've ever heard Rising Force, you'll catch it. Rough mix.
Sarah's: a song for my Sarah Monster, because she was the awesomeness. Vocals not yet laid down. VERY proud of this solo.
Butterface: Dave Lindblad on bass, Russ Muller on guitar and featuring Bag Boy on drums. Some earlier demos were done at Bag Boy's house, but most of this was recorded in a high school math room and is unedited.
I Really Liked The Cornbread You Made Last Friday Night: this song was initially improvised by the band and Russ decided to give it that title because of its relevance to the subject of the song. In fact, if you wish to see the original rendering, have a click here.
Shitty Punk Star: a tribute to all the hack punk rocker bands that we can't stand. Nothing against punk music, but those with no innovation or anything interesting to say are getting blasted everywhere. What kind of thing is that to aspire to?
Shitty Punk Star (CRAS recording): Unmixed version recorded at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences. Mixed version coming soon.
Smile (CRAS recording): I wrote this tune back in high school to give a teacher a hard time because she bored us all with her folk songs and the stories behind them and had one called 'Smile.' This is another unmixed version. The screaming was removed for the final mix.
Russell Muller: Russell's solo work, which may or may not be released under the name Bucketbot. Recorded in various methods from dorm room demos on an M-Box to the current setup, the dining room, living room, or the present Studio 910.
Tell Me (You Don't Care): this tune is very Devin Townsend influenced. I wrote just because I love that tuning and I was in the mood to write something depressing radio-pop for the emo in us all to connect with. The guitar solo has yet to be recorded, but maybe I'll get around to it once my amp gets out of the shop.
From The Flames: this will be the first track on my debut album, Karmic. This was recorded in the living room at Studio 910 with BagBoy's drum kit, however I am playing everything on the recording (as is evident in the lack-luster drumming, but oh well). This is a rough mix, and there'll be a few other elements added in, but this is a first step toward realizing my dream of actually putting out an album.
Alexis: named that simply because that was the name of my roommate's girlfriend, and she gave me the backing tracks. *shrugs* The sampled tracks have not been licensed, but this has not been commercially released, so we're all good. If you know who they're by, please e-mail me to let me know.
The Rain: rough cut, still being written/recorded/produced. This one has some potential, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to fixing the problems with it and actually doing anything more with it. Written for an ex girlfriend. It's hard to be motivated about these things when the relationship is long over, ya' know?
Far Away: written out of the loneliness of being far away from someone you long to be with. Mike Mangini loop on drums. Too many wonderful people were on my mind when I wrote this.
The Gate: imagine Yngwie storming the black gate of Mordor but without using his arpeggios. Still haven't written a section to connect the intro and the solo. The mix is utter toast. This was before I knew ANYTHING about recording. Oh well.
Maya: a song that came as a demo track with Propellerhead's Reason 2 software. I remixed it and added in some guitar in the classroom at MCC. This was done direct from a stompbox into Pro Tools, no amp sim or anything. It sounds muddy and awful but I enjoy it.
Next Season: this tune will get a name change when I write new lyrics for it. Once again, initially recorded in my dorm room, redid the guitars and bass with the new equipment. I think this has radio potential.
Bucket of Tears: inspired by Buckethead and his ability to move from mellow and ambient to abrasive and cranium-shattering. This is a good tune to meditate, sleep or sex to. Pardon the low quality of the MP3, I'm limited on file size and had to compromise for the length.
See You In Hell (Grim Reaper): sooo cheesy, I couldn't help it. Gratuitous guitar solo though.
Bumblefoot Jamout: random and crazy non-sensicle "music" inspired by the jam session I witnessed at Tone Merchant's on 1/22/05 with Bumblefoot and Mattias Eklundh along with many other amazing musicians.
My Yahoo Voice Greeting: did this back in March of '04 when the plan was different. Hmmm.. how things change.
Minor Swing - Mattias "IA" Eklundh: Swedish guitar mastermind Mattias Eklundh rocks my face off.
Don't Ask - Richie Kotzen: great songwriter. A little cheesy, but still great stuff.
Oops, I Did It Again - Children of Bodom: European badasses rock out hardcore to this wicked cover.
Devin Townsend: a sampler of his incredible screaming voice.
Be A Man - Macho Man: yes, THE Randy Savage put out a disc. This was on it. Great shit.
R U Ready? - Macho Man: more classic Macho Man.
